OODB (object-oriented database) products are designed to work well with object programming languages such as C#, C++, and Java. When you integrate database capabilities with object programming language capabilities, the result is an OODB. An OODB makes database objects appear as programming language objects in one or more object programming languages. An OODB extends the language with transparently persistent data, concurrency control, data recovery, associative queries, and other capabilities. OODBs provide the lowest cost for development and best performance combination when using objects because they store objects on disk and have the transparent program integration with object-oriented programming languages. This is because an OODB stores exactly the same object model that is used at the application level, both development and maintenance costs can be reduced.
