XSL Transformations (XSLT)

XSL Transformations (XSLT) is a language for transforming XML documents into other XML documents. XSLT is designed for use as part of XSL, which is a stylesheet language for XML. In addition to XSLT, XSL includes an XML vocabulary for specifying formatting. XSL specifies the styling of an XML document by using XSLT to describe how the document is transformed into another XML document that uses the formatting vocabulary. XSLT may be used independently of XSL. However, XSLT is not intended as a completely general-purpose XML transformation language. Rather it is designed primarily for the kinds of transformations that are needed when XSLT is used as part of XSL.

XSLT is part of the eXtensible Stylesheet Language (XSL).

XSLT 2.0 and XPath 2.0 Programmer's Reference
by Michael Kay
Average Customer Review: 5 stars based on 1 review.
Customer Review: You won't find any other book on XSLT 2.0 and XPath 2.0. The reason is very simple: Michael Kay is the expert on the subject. He is currently the editor of the XSLT 2.0 specification. He is also involved the XQuery and the XML Schema Working Groups. He has developed the Saxon XSLT processor. This book (like its predecessors were and i...

Customer Review: I've just completed a job where one of my primary functions was editing, teaching, and solving problems with XSLT. I started that job as an experienced programmer with little experience in XSLT. I frequently referred to this book whenever I thought, "I bet XSLT can do this, but how?" For example, if you are already familiar with com...

Customer Review: Some PROs and CONs... Pros: Topic flows very well. Author was able to explain each topic without asking reader to refer to upcoming forward chapters. Customer Review: This is exactly what I want from a technical book on a tricky, subtle topic: it is *serious* and does not kid around. If you're new to programming, XML, declarative languages, or regular expressions: this is not the book for you. If you're familar with all those things and want to put a new tool in your toolbelt, this is the book. I...
